Toll Carpark Construction
- Client: Toll Holdings
- Principal: FDC Building Pty Ltd
- Contract Superintendant: Nathan Jenkins
This project was undertaken at Southridge Rd Eastern Creek for Toll as an extension of an existing carpark. Northern Contracting Group’s scope of works was minor demolition and fence removal, strip and remove the existing grass, excavation and remove offsite the existing subgrade material, import and compact subbase and base material, install slip form concrete kerb only and kerb and gutters, provisions for power and irrigation, preparation of landscaped areas, asphalt surfacing and pavement ancillaries.
The contract consisted of construction of a 3000m2 carpark over 2 stages. The first stage being demolition and exaction works and the preparation of the subbase so the client could use the hardstand as a temporary parking for trucks and trailers while the new warehouse was being constructed by the principal FDC. The second stage consisted of the kerbs and gutters the final base layer and asphalt surfacing.
After the initial site survey, stripping of existing grass and offsite disposal to a licensed recycling facility was undertaken to expose the topsoil and subgrade. Bulk excavation to reduced levels proceeded this with the use of a Cat 324 excavator, Cat 312 excavator, Barford articulated dump truck and truck and trailer for cartage and disposal. The client had a nominated parcel of land to stockpile the excavated material to reduce the overall project cost. Northern Contracting Group provided all cartage and stockpile handling throughout the bulk excavation portion of the project.
A proofroll and compaction testing were undertaken under the supervision of our supplied geotechnical engineer to determine the suitability of the existing subgrade for founding of a flexible pavement carpark. To reduce the risk of the subgrade being saturated an agg-line was installed around the perimeter of the carpark behind the proposed kerbs and connected to the stormwater drainage (by others).
