Project description

Overall site works at Saint Vincent De Paul Lewisham involve the demolition and removal of existing concrete surfaces, retaining walls, redundant underground services, vegetation and protection of heritage items. In this case the perimeter walls and Marion Building wing were both items which need to be protected during the works.

Buried asbestos waste was again encountered in the backfill behind the heritage walls. Northern Group provided full remediation services to Paynter Dixon for the lawful removal of asbestos waste under the supervision of AS1 contractors and occupational Hygienist.

At completion of clearing works, new bitumen driveways, concrete kerbs, stormwater drainage and landscaping were reinstated to complete the external works upgrade of Saint Vincent De Paul’s external driveways and gardens.

Northern Group provided plant, equipment and supervision for the duration of works, managing all site works on behalf of the client.

A combination of 12t-8t excavators and 5t ASV loaders were used for the excavation work and installation of DGB20 and DGS40 pavement bases.

Site clearing of existing tree’s required that all trees be felled with the use of tree loppers in scissor booms only, due to the proximity to overhead wires and heritage items.

In addition to the tree felling Northern Group transplanted a 15m phoenix palm. The palm was excavated, lifted and placed in its new location closer to the Marion building into a new fully drained planter box. The tree has survived and is thriving in its new location.

The project was delivered on time, budget and the satisfaction of the client. All heritage items were protected and no injuries sustained during the project
