Project description

The Mental Health Facility in the Hornsby Hospital Precinct underwent major construction works adding a new 3 storey building additional 3500m2 of car parking for 90 cars interconnecting this new facility with the existing hospital and landscaping works.

Northern Contracting Group’s Civil works packages included minor demolition works, subgrade improvements, base and subbase construction, hand formed concrete kerbing, installation of flexible pavement, wheelstops and linemarking.

To ensure minimal disruption and impact of the site due limited existing carparking spaces, street parking and surrounding residents the carpark was required to built over 2 stages. This ensured that at any one time there was sufficient onsite parking for hospital staff without the direct need to occupy street parking.

At the completion of bulk works by others Northern Contracting Group engaged a Geotechnical engineer to certify the existing subgrade was suitable for the construction of a medium duty flexible pavement. This was not the case so as a part of the improvement works Northern Contracting Group were required to excavate an additional 200mm across the site and install Tensar geogrid to improve the rigidity of the subgrade.

On completion of this recycled DGB20 was imported, filled and compacted over the geogrid up to the underside of the proposed subbase layer and density tested.
