Project description

The 6th Aviation regiment at Holsworthy army barracks underwent major infrastructure improvement works adding a new 3 storey head quarters building (HQ), additional car parking for 130 cars and interconnecting roadway to adjoin existing facilities.

Northern Contracting Group’s Civil works packages included the site clearing for the new head quarters building and car park area (4000m2) , bulk excavation requiring cut and filling for both the head quarters (1500m2 and the car park foot print (1650m2), transport and disposal of restricted liquid waste and complete car park construction.

At the completion of bulk works Northern Contracting Group installed complete hydraulic works servicing the car park and roof area of the HQ. Hydraulic works include RCP greater than 375mm dia, pre cast junction pits and surface inlet pits, STC2 Humeceptor and other typical drainage elements. In addition construction of drainage swales for redirection of overland flow paths towards the new drainage system were undertaken to complete the stormwater package.

Car park construction consisted of 2 layers of base materials DGS40 and DGB20, supply, placed and compacted to SDD 99.5%, with minimal grade of 1% cross fall to drainage pits, 270m of either kerb only or kerb and guttering to the perimeter. Additional concrete items include concrete footpaths, suspended access ramps and disability access points.

Northern Contracting Group’s complete package also includes pavement works 40mm AC10, line and symbol marking services, and ancillary items such as wheel stops, guardrails, bollards and hand rails.
